Electric trucks with Avia chassis are broadening green transportation in USA7/30/09 9:46 AM

Washington DC/Prague – Electric trucks of the American company Smith Electric Vehicles with cabs and chassis of the Czech brand AVIA, representing the breakthrough in the world green transportation, were introduced to America.

Prague/Bratislava – Truck manufacturer AVIA ASHOK LEYLAND MOTORS (AALM), based in Letnany, Prague, has won a lucrative governmental order in Slovakia. It has concluded an agreement for the supply at least 30 AVIA light trucks to the Slovak Ministry of Internal Affairs.  This agreement will significantly contribute to the stabilization and strengthening of the Company’s position within the automotive industry which is in the midst of a recessionary phase.

“For AALM, it is a prestigious order in these difficult times, and will help the AVIA brand strengthen its position in Slovakia and other major export markets,” says Mr. Marcus Pauels, AALM’s Chief Operating Officer. It is an important government order for AALM after a long time. Until now, AALM marketing has been focused mainly on transport contractors and entrepreneurs.

According to the Chief Operating Officer, Slovak is a priority market for AALM in its exports plans. Two years ago, the Company established official representation in Bratislava and by end of 2008, sales have been significantly increased. AALM’s main markets are in Central and Eastern Europe, accounting for more than two-thirds of the sales volume. The rest of the sales are in the developed markets of the EU. While Hungary, England, Ireland, Spain and Slovakia have been the traditional markets, AALM plans to enter the Ukrainian and Russian markets in the future.

The AVIA tradition of reliability dates back to the First World War and is the foundation on which the Company has since then built a solid position in the engineering industry. It is amongst the largest domestic vehicle producers.  Contrary to industry trend, AALM registered a 25% growth in sales volume during 2008 compared to the previous year.
